Welcome to 7th Grade English Language Arts!
I am excited to be sharing your 7th grade year with you!
Now that it is your second year of middle school, you will be expected to be more independent in your learning and accept responsibility for your actions. In order for you to have a successful year, you must make the choice to respect yourself and others. You must be responsible for your learning. I will guide you to where you need to go but you must do the work to get there. You must think for yourself. You must take risks because it is only through thinking and taking risks can you learn and grow.
We will be spending much of our time working cooperatively. Each person is a valuable part of our classroom and therefore, each person has something of value to contribute. This classroom is a safe haven. Respect is given and it is received. As a student, you have rights but you also have responsibilities.
You have the RIGHT to learn and you have the RESPONSIBILITY to allow others to learn with you.
You have the RIGHT to respect and you have the RESPONSIBILITY to respect others.
You have the RIGHT to be safe at school and you have the RESPONSIBILITY not to hurt others with your actions or words.
You have the RIGHT to share your ideas and ask questions in our classroom and you have the RESPONSIBILITY to wait your turn to speak and listen to others’ ideas when they speak.
You have the RIGHT to participate in classroom activities and you have the RESPONSIBILITY to stay on task and do your best in all classroom activities and assignments.
Following the rights and responsibilities will lead you to a successful year in 7th grade. I am excited for this year and I cannot wait to witness your growth and learning!
